What does “Starred” mean and how do I use it?

Overview

In Gmail, “starred” marks an email as important, sets the email in a folder called “Starred,” and helps in searching for starred emails in the future. This feature allows for easy access to your most important emails and allows them to stand out in your inbox.

In your Gmail inbox, you can quickly “star” an email by clicking the star icon Screen Shot on 2019-01-11 at 00-44-55.png  located to the right of the checkbox of the email you wish to star. This will mark the email with the default yellow star and add the email to the “Starred” folder. You can also find the star icon at the top-right of an open email.

Once “starred,” the email will be more noticeable in your Gmail inbox and appear in the “Starred” folder located on the left sidebar.

This section allows you to add more colors to your star selections. This allows you to categorize your stars by color for a more organized inbox! You can utilize specific search functions to find colored stars in your inbox. For example, if you want to search for your red stars, you can add the function `has:red-star` to your search bar to find all the red stars in your inbox.
